Street Style Interview: Redefining Fashion Media Across Africa | Afrifashion Promotion
Meet Fumbi Oyeniran, the visionary founder of Street Style Interview – championing bold African fashion from the streets to the global stage.
When you think of fashion interviews, what comes to mind? Runways? Glamorous event centers? Think again. Street Style Interview, the winner of the Fashion Media Excellence Award at the Afrifashion Online Awards 2024, is transforming how we experience fashion—right from the streets. Born from Fumbi Oyeniran’s vision and a desire to do things differently, this platform has grown into a multinational media company, capturing the pulse of African fashion, one street at a time.
The Vision Behind Street Style Interview
The idea was sparked by Fumbi, a stylist who officially began his career in 2018. With backstage experience at several local and international fashion shows, he recognized a pattern: fashion was mostly showcased on runways inside event centers. What if that showcase happened on the streets instead?
“There were few people doing vox pop, but they weren’t consistent and it wasn’t fashion-focused,” he shared. “We saw this as an opportunity for people to express their styles via interviews and on the streets.”
What started as twice-a-month Instagram content evolved into a thriving fashion media company with a presence in Nigeria and Ghana.

Capturing the Essence of African Fashion
Street Style Interview has one core focus—African fashion. Every piece of content is centered on how people express themselves through their unique styles. From interviews with designers and stylists to fashion models and creatives, the platform provides a space for authentic self-expression.
The team goes beyond interviews, producing short fashion films that highlight African fashion’s depth, richness, and cultural relevance. Their work tells powerful stories of heritage and modern creativity.
A Win That Opens Doors
Winning the Fashion Media Excellence Award is more than a trophy for Street Style Interview—it’s validation.
“This award means a lot to us. It shows that we are being recognized for our work. It confirms our dedication and passion for contributing to the growth of African fashion,” they said.
With this recognition, they hope to inspire more creators and expand their reach into new African countries. “We believe more doors will be opened and global visibility will increase as we continue to grow.”
A Memorable Story: Ibadan Street Interviews
There have been many standout moments, but one particularly meaningful episode took place in Ibadan. The team set out to conduct their first language-based street interviews in a popular market. However, they faced unexpected hostility.
“We were harassed by street boys,” they recalled. “In Lagos, we usually have security for high-risk areas, but in Ibadan, we couldn’t arrange that.”
In a heartwarming twist, market women came to their rescue, chased away the troublemakers, and even participated in the interviews. The women discussed African fashion in the 1960s versus now, performed Yoruba tongue twisters, and passionately spoke about the importance of preserving African fashion.
“It was really great,” they said. “You need to watch that episode if you haven’t.”
Staying Relevant and Spirit-Led
So, how does Street Style Interview stay ahead of the curve?
They give full credit to the Holy Spirit for divine inspiration and groundbreaking content. In addition, they understand the importance of strategic brand partnerships and leveraging social media to grow their influence.
Their platform remains fresh, engaging, and connected to the culture that inspires it.
What’s Next for Street Style Interview?
Behind the scenes of a team dreaming big—towards a fashion TV station and beyond.
The vision is big—and bold.
In the short term, the team plans to resume their weekly fashion news, university fashion tours, and educative fashion content. They also aim to expand across Africa and feature on major billboards in Nigeria.
Their medium-term goal? Establishing a fashion TV station in Lagos, Nigeria. But before that happens, they’re focused on acquiring a physical office, building out functional departments, and investing in top-tier equipment.
“Please be on the lookout on all our social media pages and company website for new episodes and announcements.”
Street Style Interview is more than just a media platform—it’s a movement that’s amplifying African fashion on a global stage.
